The bike, the desire to go fast, that thrill that only speed can give … but also simply the pleasure of enjoying a high-performance vehicle, which does not necessarily mean “running”. Whether it’s running on the track or going for a walk on the road, we should always seek the maximum gratification from our beloved. Often we struggle about what changes to adapt to make it perform at its best. Because our bike, even if no longer very young – trust me – still has a lot to give. And sometimes, the right advice, the right information, can give us the best satisfaction, without necessarily spending a fortune.
Here are some tips to be able to improve the performance of the bike. Tips that, we hope, can help you enjoy your vehicle more (and better). Choose the best lithium motorcycle battery.
1. WE IMPROVE GRIP
If you want to get the most out of your vehicle in terms of driving, the first thing to do is to adopt a nice set of new, latest generation tires. If, in fact, it is true that good results (and safety) can be obtained even with tires of not very recent design, it should be emphasized that high-level tires immediately guarantee better driving sensations and grip. A good test would be to travel a stretch of road (or track) first with a type of tire, and immediately after with a new train of a different range. Then tell us what you think…! And by the way… for instant improvement, and totally free, maybe even check out the pressure more often.
2. BRAKE UPGRADE
If you want to go fast, one of the best things to do is… brake well! On the track, this is a basic rule if you want to get the better of the clock. But even on the road this should not be underestimated … if only to bring the pellaccia home! Here then is that a good kit of steel braided hoses (the Kevlar / carbon braid is superfluous) and more preforming pads than those that (often) we find supplied on our “girls”, can do for us. Forget (if you have little money to invest) brake pumps or “miraculous” calipers, and invest your savings perhaps on a nice kit of sintered compound pads… you won’t regret it!
3. FAST IF CALM
Let’s face it, riding with the fear that the irreparable happens to our bike is never good. Many Riders already swear if a gnat splatters on the Plexiglas, imagine if at every turn you have to worry about the damage caused by an unfortunate slide. A nice pair of fairing pads represent an unsuspected psychological support. Driving calmly, protected from any irreparable damage, is the best way to be fast and safe!
4. SUITABLE CLOTHING
The mechanism is the same highlighted in point 3, and it is psychological. To be fast you have to be calm, feel well protected, and be sure that you have thought of everything to limit the risks or the chances that something could go wrong. Suitable clothing will repair us in case of error. When driving, the distraction, the unexpected, are always around the corner, better to be ready and without exposing our precious body to the hard asphalt.
5. WELL TUNED SUSPENSION
Many of us spend exaggerated sums for trinkets of dubious taste: multicolor plexiglas, zebu leather knobs, horizontal plate holders (as if the plate were something to be displayed as a message for visitors coming down from the sky), trombone exhausts … and then maybe they almost completely neglect the work – fundamental – of the suspensions. If you want to have a truly effective ride on the bike, fine-tuning these components is one of the first operations to be carried out. Even if brand new, a mono assembled on a large scale, will always have air in it, resulting in bubbles that limit its effectiveness. A nice overhaul, complete with bleeding and calibration, is what it takes to have tangible improvements. Replacing springs based on your own weight would also not be a bad idea.
6. FORK AND MONO OIL REPLACEMENT
If you find yourself with mono and fork without adjustments, you can adapt the hydraulics to your needs just by replacing the oil inside them with different grades. In this case, remember that using a thicker oil will make the system more rigid; conversely, you will have a softer response if you use a more fluid oil. It will cost you less than buying a complete Cartridge Kit and can help you a lot.
7. TIRE PRESSURE
We mentioned it a little more on joking. But we’re not joking here at all. It will seem superfluous to you, but from experience ( we have seen things that you humans … ) it is good to always remember this. There are many fearless people who ride on the road, and maybe on the track, with flat tires, only to complain that ” the bike is not rigorous in its trajectory … maybe the setting is out … we need to send everything to assistance … let’s change the fork … call Jeremy Burgess … otherwise the tenths do not fall and … what did we come here to do today? “. Calm down, breathe, use the tires at the correct pressure and then, if necessary, in the extreme hypothesis… disturb the gurus of the setting! Otherwise, just get a good pressure gauge… and use it!
8. MORE SOLID IN THE SADDLE
A useful and inexpensive accessory that can do for us, are the so-called Stomp Grips. Bubble stickers, to be applied on the surfaces of the tank, which are in contact with our legs. They help to have better support in the event of braking, to the benefit of safety. Very useful for those who ride on the track, they can also have their say on the road… to try!
9. REVIEW THE FINAL TRANSMISSION
Do you have an engine with the weakest “bass” of the audience of an evening of “Amici di Maria De Filippi” broadcast at a meeting of Alpini? Or you are in 6th gear, at 75 km / h, and you get the feeling that… you know, I noticed that the engine sticks a little ?
Seriously, in some cases it may be worth taking a look at the final broadcast. A replaced crown or pinion – they cost a few tens of euros – can solve many problems. Among other things, you can “adjust” the delivery according to your tastes, varying the measures, and be more gratified by your vehicle (always ask an expert mechanic) … without paying madness for control units and juxtapositionssimilar! Be careful not to mount new gears on a too worn chain or vice versa.
10. PAY ATTENTION TO THE WEIGHT / POWER RATIO
Yes, because a physical law, known more or less to everyone, says that the lighter a body is, the faster it acquires speed, with the same thrust. Based on this, the advice is… don’t get fat! You got it right, a balanced diet is the basis of every physical activity, even riding a motorcycle. Think about it: if you swallow sheaves of spaghetti, or rivers of beer, then it will be useless to spend 1,000 euros in ergal to recover 1 kg on the bike … a simple diet will be good for your health, driving … and your wallet. Cheaper than that ?!
